It all started the moment we moved to the countryside. With no grocery store just around the corner anymore, we had no choice but to start planning. Our goal was clear: stop going to the store every day and switch to a single, well-planned weekly shopping routine.
It saved time, but it introduced a new challenge – communication.
You know how it goes. You crave a juice for Wednesday night’s match on Tuesday, while your wife craves chips on Wednesday. One of us would pop into the shop, only to realize after coming back home that we didn't call each other. Or we’d mention what to buy over the weekend, but by Friday's shopping trip, half of it was forgotten. The result? Inefficiency, extra trips, and the occasional argument like: “I told you about this on Monday!”
From a paper note on the fridge to a shared system
Our first "revolutionary" fix was a magnetic notepad right on the fridge door. Whenever we thought of something during the week – milk, eggs, tuna, fruit – we simply wrote it down. When it was time to shop, we brought the paper along.
It was a step forward, but far from ideal:
- Checking items off on a crumpled piece of paper at the store was awkward, and the list was disorganized.
- We bought 80% of the same items repeatedly, having to rewrite them every single time.
- When our little baby arrived, we ran completely out of dinner ideas. We kept repeating the same 5 to 10 meals and couldn't keep track of the ingredients needed.
That’s when I thought to myself as an "efficiency-driven husband" that there had to be a better way. We needed a tool that would save us time, money, and most importantly energy — which is in very short supply when raising a toddler.
How FrigBoard was born: Everything on your fridge (and more)
We built an online space that perfectly replaces and upgrades the classic fridge board. Today, our fridge is clean again — except for a few souvenir magnets. We moved all the domestic chaos into the app.
What can FrigBoard do?
- Live, real-time shopping list: If I remember at work that we need coffee, I open the site and add it. My wife sees it on her phone in the exact same second.
- Favorite items in one click: Staples we buy every week don't need to be typed over and over. One click brings them back.
- Recipes synced with shopping: We stopped asking “What’s for dinner?” endlessly. With one tap, ingredients from our favorite recipes move straight onto the shopping list.
- Calendar and notes in one place: We never miss important dates, milestones, or doctor appointments.
- Family finance overview on the go: I used to track our finances in a complex PC spreadsheet. With FrigBoard, I can log a expense or price update right from my phone — even while commuting on the bus.
Not just for families, but for any group
To make FrigBoard useful beyond daily groceries, we added categories, photos, and comments to items. You can use it for big home projects, specialized gear, housemates sharing an apartment, or small team office supplies.
For us, FrigBoard means less stress, more family time, and a clear mind with a clean fridge.
